Sherbrooke Easter Sunday Online Service

Sunday April 12 10:30 am

i) Easter Poem to be read after the Service:
First read this poem by David Lose line by line from top to bottom.  You will notice that the poem is the view of Easter through the eyes of the Pharisees and Judas Iscariot.  However, when you get to the end of the poem, begin reading it line by line from the bottom to the top.  Read this way, the poem has the exact opposite message – The message of the three wise women who are the first meet our Risen Lord!

Easter is coming

But for many of us, this is not the ultimate reality
There is too much pain and suffering in the world today
Death has the last word
It would therefore be foolish to say that
The life and death of a first-century Jew named Jesus makes a difference
Why?
Might makes right
Power is superior to compassion and
Despair is stronger than hope
So I refuse to believe
A man can come back from the dead
Sometimes the most important facts are the hardest to accept
Resurrection is a false hope
How can you say
An empty tomb changes everything
Don’t you see
“God loves the world”
Is a lie
“Money is God”
And
“The one who dies with the most toys wins”
I will tell you what I tell my children
There is no more to this world than what you can see, hold, and buy
There is no mystery in everyday life, and
There is nothing sacred about ordinary things and people
Many of us simply do not believe that
God can give life to the dead, bring light from darkness, and create something out of nothing

But what if the testimony of the women at the tomb was true? Then…

iii) Song Lyrics for the two songs we will sing together with Devon on Sunday.  These lyrics are for those who will be phoning in.  For those on computer, we will be projecting the words.

O Praise The Name (Anástasis)

I cast my mind to Calvary
Where Jesus bled and died for me
I see His wounds His hands His feet
My Saviour on that cursed tree

Chorus
O praise the Name of the Lord our God
O praise His Name forevermore
For endless days we will sing Your praise
Oh Lord oh Lord our God

His body bound and drenched in tears
They laid Him down in Joseph’s tomb
The entrance sealed by heavy stone
Messiah still and all alone

Chorus

Then on the third at break of dawn
The Son of heaven rose again
O trampled death where is your sting
The angels roar for Christ the King

Chorus

Verse 4
He shall return in robes of white
The blazing sun shall pierce the night
And I will rise among the saints
My gaze transfixed on Jesus’ face

Chorus

Christ Is Risen

Let no one caught in sin remain
Inside the lie of inward shame
But fix our eyes upon the cross
And run to Him who showed great love
And bled for us
Freely You’ve bled for us

Chorus
Christ is risen from the dead
Trampling over death by death
Come awake come awake
Come and rise up from the grave
Christ is risen from the dead
We are one with Him again
Come awake come awake
Come and rise up from the grave

Beneath the weight of all our sin
You bowed to none but heaven’s will
No scheme of hell no scoffer’s crown
No burden great can hold You down
In strength You reign
Forever let Your church proclaim

Chorus

Bridge
O death where is your sting
O hell where is your victory
O church come stand in the light
The glory of God has defeated the night
Singing O death where is your sting
O hell where is your victory
O church come stand in the light
Our God is not dead He’s alive He’s alive

Chorus
