Sherbrooke Mennonite Church's Mission Statement
EXALT, EXTEND, EDIFY
Three words chosen to embody our goal and purpose as a congregation of believers. These words are captured in action by a wood carving collage in the church sanctuary. A woman reaching through a billow of smoke rising from the ashes of despair, extending her arm to someone in need. Three trumpeters raising their horns towards heaven in joyful exaltation. Men, women and children supporting one another both physically and spiritually, holding each other accountable in their daily walk and comforting one another in times of grief.
"Carry each other's burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ." Galatians 6:2
BIBLE STUDIES AND CELL GROUPS
Our Bible Studies and Cell Groups are the spiritual care ministry of Sherbrooke Church. We encourage you to join one. Since the locations and times may change, we encourage you to phone the leader of the Bible Study or Cell Group that you are thinking of joining, to obtain the latest information. In our congregation, the terms “Cell Group and Bible Study” are somewhat interchangeable. In varying degrees of emphasis, they all seek to meet these four goals:
1. to encounter each other through fellowship and caregiving,
2. to encounter the presence of Christ in worship and prayer,
3. to encounter the Bible in study and
4. to encounter the world in outreach (a mission and service focus).

SERVICE OPPORTUNITIES
As a congregation, we promote mission and outreach work within our community as well as around the world.
~Locally, we are operating a REFUGEE FOOD BANK where refugees (screened through the Mennonite Central Committee Refugee Centre) come to receive food/care packages. This Food Bank operates Thursday mornings out of our church basement.
~We SUPPORT OUR MISSION WORKERS locally as well as internationally. We have a mission partnership with Rob and Kim Tiessen who work at Camp Squeah in Hope BC and Les and Rita Peters in Guatemala. We also support our Spanish speaking community through financial assistance to the FIRST UNITED SPANISH MENNONITE CHURCH.
~THE VANCOUVER CRISIS PREGNANCY CENTRE is close to our hearts as our women sew layettes for newborns and donate various items to the centre each month.
~Many of our members faithfully volunteer their time to work at the Vancouver MENNONITE CENTRAL COMMITTEE THRIFT & SELF-HELP STORE. Everything from cleaning to pricing items to picking up and delivering furniture and appliances is done by volunteers.
The list doesn’t end here, but it should give you a bit of an idea of where we are involved. If you would like any further information on any one of these ministries, feel free to ask one of our ushers on Sunday morning, or give us a call sometime during the week. We’d love to hear from you!
YOUTH
All young people in Grades 8-12 are encouraged to take part in our Youth Ministry. Every 1st and 3rd Wednesday of the month, the youth meet at 7:30 pm at the STAGE (11571 Daniels Road, Richmond).
